Boost Economy, Raise Awareness of Homelessness

There will be family fun and entertainment Saturday,
November 25, at Shoe Sensation in the Park Center Shopping Center. As a benefit for the Community Resource Center, the store, along with New Life Fellowship Church and
Church Women United, have teamed up to offer a fun kick-off to holiday shopping.
"We wanted to help a local charity," says Kim Lathrop, assistant manager of Shoe Sensation in Park Lane Shopping
Center. "We talked with our corporate headquarters, and all of us agreed that the Community Resource Center was a worthy
cause." The event will feature games such as ring toss, organized by the youth of New Life Fellowship Church in Chillicothe.
Pastor Jeff Keck and his group will also be serving hot dogs, hamburgers, and hot chocolate. The Sliced Bread
Market will loan the grill for the event. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be at the event for photo opportunities with the
children, 5-inch-by-7-inch prints are $5 each. Shoe Sensation is giving special shopping savings coupons to the first
100 people who come to the event as well as handing out other savings certificates for later.
Community Resource Center Executive Director Sherrie Wohlgemuth adds,
"We were honored that Shoe Sensation wanted to partner with us to raise money for our program and to raise awareness of homelessness in Livingston
County. While the national economy is improving, north Missouri generally is lagging behind in job

sure our volunteers can leave around 3," says Wohlgemuth. Church Women United (an organization of women from
all churches in the Chillicothe area) will be coordinating the baked goods donations while the women of New Life
Fellowship will be organizing the goods for sale/donation booth that day.
"November 25 is Small Business
Saturday," said Rosina Harter, marketing director for the Community Resource
Center. "We chose that date to emphasize the importance of shopping locally to encourage the local economy.
When we support local merchants, we help end homelessness by creating local jobs. This event allows us to have
fun for a worthy cause. It's a perfect way to help the less fortunate in Livingston
The Community Resource Center is a 30-day emergency shelter. It provides emergency overnight shelter to men,
women, and families. The essential services include meals, laundry service, hygiene products, hot showers, access
to recovery services and case management. All services are provided in a clean, sober environment. Upon intake,
clients must take a voucher to the Chillicothe Police Department to be run for extraditable warrants before staying at
the CRC. Clients are required to do a Breathalyzer test each night at
check-in to ensure sobriety.
The Community Resource Center also works to meet the needs of our community members by connecting them to
necessary resources as well as by providing assistance in the application process to access these resources. For
