The wonderful blue sky, bright sunshine, and fall weather couldn't have been better for the Missouri Department of Conservation's 32nd-annual Poosey Driving Tour at the Poosey Conservation Area's heavily forested hills and hollows in northwest Livingston County recently. A near-record crowd of more than 1300 folks took advantage of the opportunity to drive through the area on roads not usually open to public travel and enjoy the brilliant fall colors on the innumerable kinds of trees and other fall foliage. Thirteen stops along the way gave tourists information on the conservation management used in the almost 6,000 acre area and also some insight into the historical aspects of the original community called Poosey.

A church built in Chillicothe about 150 years ago will be moved Sept. 18 from 202 Henry Street to its new location on property across from the Grand River Historical Society Museum located at 1401 Forest Drive. Pam Klingerman, Museum Curator, says the AME Church building is of significant historical value as it was dedicated in 1868 and is believed to be the first AME Church built north of the Missouri River post-Civil War. With the help of two area foundations, the Lambert Foundation and the Livingston County Community Foundation, the museum is raising funds to pay for the move. Tax deductible donations to help save this piece of Chillicothe history may be made payable to the Grand River Historical Society and Museum AME Church Moving Fund.

The new ambulance for the Chillicothe Fire Department arrived Tuesday. Fire Chief Darrell Wright says the Livingston county Ambulance District supplies the ambulances for the city. This new ambulance cost just under $104,500. Chief Wright says the new unit is a Sprinter Style Ambulance to use primarily for transports to the Kansas City Area. Wright says the Sprinter Style ambulances are very economical to operate. He says that savings over the past few years have actually allowed them to add three new staff members at the department. The bigger boxes are better to use when responding to the local emergency situations because it gives the medics more room to work on the patient during the transport to the hospital.
