- Chillicothe City Attorney Robert Cowherd reminds Chillicothe residents they have a responsibility to shovel their sidewalks following a snow storm. That includes both in the residential areas and in the business district. Property owners can be cited and fined. Police Chief Jon Maples says they would rather educate the
public but could write tickets if necessary.
- If you have storm damage that leaves branches and other debris that needs to be
removed, street crews will make the rounds to remove storm debris. This
does not include general trimming or brush removal. The CMU Yard Waste area is open Monday to Friday from 7:00 am to
4:00 pm and Saturdays 8:00 am to noon at the WCA site on Mitchell Road. The brush / burn site is open 24/7 and is located on Ryan Lane, about a mile east of Mitchell Road.
- Work to improve drainage and traffic on Hickory Street in Chillicothe, south of 3rd Street, will begin
Monday, October 8, 2018. Chillicothe's Street superintendent, Jeff Gillespie,
says the contractor, M&M Utilities, will begin removal of trees on Monday on Hickory
Street from 3rd Street to 1st Street. The street will be closed down beginning Monday and until further notice. If anyone has any questions, they are asked to contact the Street Superintendent at
660-646-3811. This work is part of the scheduled street projects of 2018.
- A group of Livingston County Veterans have been working behind the scenes for about a year to create a new local veterans support organization. The official name is
"Livingston County Veterans Association" (LICOVA for short) which has been awarded 501(c) 3 not-for-profit charitable organization status by the Internal Revenue Service.
Members of American Legion Post 25 and VFW Post 858 are automatic members of
LICOVA, and all other local veterans are invited to join. Inquiries can be sent to

www.Facebook/LICOVA. The LICOVA Board of Directors has recently been in a quiet fundraising
campaign and is excited to announce that gifts and written pledges totaling about $700,000 have been received toward a goal to raise $1.1 million for the project.
Plans are now shifting into a more public phase of the campaign in order to broaden requests to local groups, businesses, and individuals who might like to assist; as well as out-of-town organizations who support veterans and their causes.
- FosterAdopt Connect
celebrated the grand opening of its new Chillicothe office at
409 Washington St. with a ribbon cutting on Monday, March 19, 2018. FosterAdopt Connect specializes in solving problems for
children and families involved in and affected by the child welfare system. Four people work in the Chillicothe office.
Garni Churan serves as program director, and she expects FosterAdopt Connect to add other programming that will benefit children and families affected by abuse and neglect in northwest Missouri. FosterAdopt Connect is a comprehensive support and advocacy center for abused and neglected children and the families caring for them.
The Community Resource Center is a 30-day emergency shelter. It provides
emergency overnight shelter to men, women, and families. The essential services include meals,
laundry service, hygiene products, hot showers, access to recovery services and case
management. All services are provided in a clean, sober environment. Upon intake, clients must
take a voucher to the Chillicothe Police Department to be run for extraditable warrants before
staying at the CRC. Clients are required to do a Breathalyzer test each night at check-in to ensure
sobriety. The Community Resource Center also works to meet the needs of our community
members by connecting them to necessary resources as well as by providing assistance in the
application process to access these resources. For more information about the Community

08 24 17 - Pathway of Hope is a program offered through The Salvation Army in Chillicothe,
and its goal is to provide individualized services to families with children who want to take action
to break the cycle of crisis and vulnerability that repeats generation after generation.
The Salvation Army also provides a food pantry to people in need. The pantry is open every
Wednesday and Thursday, from 1 until 4 p.m. at The Salvation Army, 621 Mohawk. Donations are accepted at any time, Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., with the office closed from noon until 1 p.m. Individuals may seek food pantry assistance once every 30 days; however, they may obtain bread on Wednesdays the Thursdays while supplies last.
To qualify for the food pantry, individuals must be from Livingston or Grundy counties. They must
provide a photo ID and a Social Security Card. To learn more about the Pathway of Hope program or

May 15, 2017 - The Retired Teachers Association recently purchased carbon monoxide detectors. They have teamed with Chillicothe Fire Department to install the detectors. If you are a senior and in need of a
CO detector, contact the fire department at 660-646-2139. These will be placed at no charge thanks to the generous donation of local retired educators.
27, 2017 - Chillicothe Municipal Utilities is establishing an across-the-board 8 percent PILOT rate fee for residential and small business electric, water, sewer and refuse customers beginning with June billings. This means that the collection of the current 10.41 percent of the electric fee (6.53 percent PILOT fee and 3.88 percent service component fee) will be reduced to 8 percent fees that will be charged on all utility services
- electric, water, sewer and refuse instead. The end result should have little impact on CMU
customers' bills, according to CMU General Manager Jim Gillilan.
- The Grand River Multi-Purpose Center Fund drive pledges are coming in
daily and has surpassed the $250,000 mark as of May 17, standing at $250,585.The goal is $400,000,
and the committee promoting the fund drive is in the process of mailing brochures and pledge cards to individuals and businesses in Livingston County explaining the project to retire the loan on the building at 607 Old Highway 36, make needed repairs, and provide an emergency fund for future needs. If you have not received a brochure, you may call the center at 660-646-1555, and a brochure can be mail to you or you may stop by the facility and pick one up. The center operates under the 501(c3) nonprofit tax exempt corporation number of the Concerned Citizens of the Community which means that donations will be income tax exempt. Checks should be made payable to CCC Building Fund with GRMPC Building Fund in the
"for" section in the lower left hand corner.
23, 2016 - The Livingston County Food Pantry has a new home: 403 Locust, across from the Cultural Corner. The hours for the Livingston County Food Pantry changed on September 4.
Currently, the hours are from 1 to 4. The change will make the hours from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. on

28, 2016 - The newly-constructed city walking / biking trail opened on Monday, June 27, 2016. This trail starts at 3rd Street and South Woodrow Street, just west of the old prison site, and continues 1.4 miles to the east entrance
near the Wabash restaurant. Parking on each end of the trail is near the entrances. City officials emphasize that no motor vehicles are allowed on this trail.

Free summer meals, funded by the USDA, are available to kids and teens ages 18 and younger at summer meals sites in Chillicothe. Many summer meals sites offer fun learning and recreational activities so children and teens can eat a healthy meal while staying active and being with friends. Sites are also registered with the USDA and are held at safe local places like schools, churches and community centers.
Free Summer Meal Program Details: Meals are free to children and teens ages 18 and younger who come to a summer meals site. Free summer meals will help families save money and stretch their already tight food budgets. Food served is healthy and follows USDA nutrition guidelines. Summer meal sites are a fun, safe places for kids and teens to be active and visit with friends. No application or proof of income needed. According to Chillicothe Summer School Administrator and Central School principal, Melanie Rucker, summer meal sites in Chillicothe are located at Dewey Elementary and Chillicothe High School. The Chillicothe Municipal Utilities Board of Public Works approved rate increases
for water and refuse service starting with the April 2016 bill statements. The overall system
average increase for water will be 5.8 percent and for refuse service will 10 percent. While the net
effect of the rate increase on customers will vary by volume used, the average water
customer using 6,000 gallons of water per month will see an increase of a $1.35 per
month. The base charge for residential refuse service will increase by $1.25 per month, while the effect on
business refuse customers will vary by container classification. The increases are needed to cover increased
operating costs and infrastructure improvements. The last rate increase for water was in April
2011, while refuse fees increased in April 2014.
